With less than two weeks until SummerSlam at the Staples Center in L.A., there are only three matches announced so far for the biggest party of the summer. So far we have a triple threat WWE Championship match between CM Punk, Big Show, and John Cena, a World Heavyweight Championship Match between Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio, and Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar. Granted those are three big matches, but they cannot be the core of the pay-per-view.
We have the likes of Chris Jericho and Dolph Ziggler feuding against one another. Hell, make it a match with the MITB Briefcase up for grabs. I mean, that would be a show stealing match between these two combatants, who in my mind, are just about even with one another when it comes to talent, and they're both awesome on the mic. The Miz is the new IC Champion, and I bet he could use a match at SummerSlam, hell, why not give Christian a return match, or set up a No. 1 Contender's Match on either Raw or SmackDown to decide who faces The Miz at SummerSlam. and don't get me started on the United States Champion Santino Marella, he's had a 5 month title reign and only four title defenses. To me, it seems like the company is wanting to either devalue the U.S. Title, or protect Santino and make him a "legit" champion, so why not have Santino face a guy like Damien Sandow, and have Sandow take the title off of Santino. It's also reported that R-Truth and Kofi will drop the Tag Team Titles to A.W.'s clients The Primetime Players (Titus O'Neil and Darren Young), why not have a tag team title match between the two teams. In my mind, SummerSlam has so much potential to live up to the past two SummerSlams, and it can, but it feels like WWE doesn't want to invest the time to make it the biggest party of the summer, but more of being a party crasher.
