For the last 8-9 months, CM Punk has held the WWE Championship proudly, and has also fended off the likes of Chris Jericho, Daniel Bryan, Kane, and John Cena. At Raw 1,000, we saw a shocking conclusion, where we saw Punk "punk" The Rock (pun intended) with a GTS.
There's no bigger threat to CM Punk's title reign as most would look on the outside and say the size of Big Show should have Punk concerned, or some could say the resilience of John Cena, but what if I said that the biggest threat to CM Punk's title reign is CM Punk? Besides a few WTF reactions, some would say since Raw 1,000, that I could be right on the money.
Last night on Raw, Punk's ego came out as he claimed The Rock was hogging his spotlight, and had to do something about it, and he did something when he gave The Rock a GTS, and he also claimed that Big Show and Cena were both losers since neither man won the No. 1 Contender's Match, until AJ "punk'd" Punk and made a triple threat match at SummerSlam.
In my eyes, I saw Punk becoming a little unstable at the start of the show, and the heel slowly coming out. Now I'm not saying he isn't right in saying the WWE Champion should be the end focus of Raw, because it should be. I mean, since WrestleMania, how many times has the WWE Championship match ended a pay-per-view....? Zero. How many times has a match with Cena ended a pay-per-view....? Five. So in that aspect, Punk's claim of wanting the spotlight is legitimate, but could we see a changing of the guard come SummerSlam? We'll have to wait and see.
