10 Presents From The WWE In 2012
by Dustin Mills
As Christmas is rapidly approaching I thought I would take a positive look at the WWE and the "presents" they have given us this year. For as much as people in the Internet Wrestling Community complain about how bad the product has been at times this year, I'm going to dig down deep and find the 10 best moments/wrestlers/events WWE has presented us in 2012.
10. Minimal Guest Appearances
In 2009 the WWE had an unhealthy obcession with guest hosts of Raw which I thought more times than not were an unentertaining trainwreck. In 2012 we had minimal guest hosts/appearences. During the year we had Perez Hilton,James Roday, The Three Stooges, Cyndi Lauper, Charlie Sheen, Jared Fogle and Larry King. Most of these were bad but at least Will Sasso took a chokeslam from Kane.
9. Short Diva's Matches
I hear all walks of life complain about how short the diva's matches are now and I have one question; why? I would love for the Diva's to have storylines and feuds, but aboslutely not with the roster they have now. It would be different if you still had girls like the Trish Stratus' or the Lita's of the world but now you have horrible acting by Eve and AJ making out with a new wrestler every month.
8. John Cena Not Being WWE Champion
The one benefit of a guy not named John Cena being WWE Champion for 365 days means John Cena wasn't champion. Although he was continuously shoved down our throat and put in multiple main events over the WWE Championship, we didn't have to see the WWE Championship sagging around his waist at one single point this year.
7. Return Of Paul Heyman
I was aboslutely shocked when Paul Heyman returned to Raw as the adviser/counseler to Brock Lesnar during the Triple H and Brock Lesnar feud. He will always be synonymous with the wrestling business and who would have thought he would be back after the terms he left with Vince McMahon around December to Dismember 2006. Although he was slapped around by Stephanie McMahon and made fool of by AJ, it is great to see him back and be an added to piece to the "reigning and defending WWE Champion."
6. Revival Of Tag Team Division
I preface this by saying that the tag team division still has a ways to go but look at all the new tag teams put together this year. There are Kofi Kingston/R-Truth, Team Hell No, Rhodes Scholars, Primetime Players, Justin Gabriel/Tyson Kidd and Rey Mysterio/Sin Cara. Although most were just randomly thrown together at first, they have gelled and made for some entertaining and quality television.
5. Dolph Ziggler
Dolph Ziggler for the past few years has been looked at as a star on the rise and an eventual main eventer in the WWE. He was featured prominently towards the end of the year and event won the Smackdown Money In The Bank ladder match in July. He is a guy that always seems to deliver in a match whether it be the current jerker or in the main event of a PPV like he did at TLC. A World Heavyweight Championship looks to certainly be his and it's not a matter of if, but when.
4. Daniel Bryan
Daniel Bryan won the World Heavyweight Championship at the end of last year but his momentous push and run was during 2012. Whether it be the YES! or the NO! or the kiss at Wrestlemania or the anger management vignettes with Kane, he was golden this year.
3. Return Of Brock Lesnar
It was rumored after Wrestlemania he would be returning and the WWE didn't wait long. It was the next night on Raw to be exact and although he lost to John Cena immediately after returning at Extreme Rules, it was awesome to see him back. He took a hiatus after that and returned in the buld to Summerslam looking like an absolutely monster and "broke" Triple H's arm again. He has been off since but eventually will be back to build up Wrestlemania 29.
2. CM Punk's WWE Championshp Reign
What an incredible year for CM Punk. After the WWE Championship played hot potato with The Miz, John Cena, CM Punk, Rey Mysterio and Alberto Del Rio all winning the Championship at various points in 2011, CM Punk is about to keep the WWE Championship for an entire calendar year. That is very impressive and unheard of in this day and age and a ton of credit goes to CM Punk and the WWE.
1. Influx Of New Talent
As WWE fans we complain each and every year with how it's the same people in the same spots. In 2012 we saw some great talent influxed into the WWE featuring everything from mid-carders to main-eventers. The list includes Antonio Cesaro, Brad Maddox, Damien Sandow, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Tensai and Big E Langston. I'm not saying all of them were incredibly succesful but there definite are some main event guys if booked properly in the future.
Well that's my list of the 10 Best Presents from the WWE in 2012. Feel free to send me your lists or tell me how much you agreed/disagreed with mine. If I don't decide to write another blog before Christmas, I wish everybody a Happy Holidays and a Merry Christmas!
