John Cena : His Gimmick Can't Last Forever

The WWE has surprised me a bit in that the last few years they never decided to turn John Cena heel. At least every big "face" wrestler has had a heel run except for John Cena after he became a big star. We all know about the "thuganomics" John Cena when he was very entertaining in 2002. The fans echoed a familiar and alarming message to the WWE this past Monday when RAW's main event featuring the Big Show vs John Cena was one of the four lowest rated RAW main events in fifteen years. Ouch.

So we all know what we want. Full out "heel" John Cena spouting out raps with profanity and making total fools of his opponents while still remaining bad-ass in the ring. Is that too much to ask? The WWE can't play the "it wasn't Cena's fault" card forever, the message was plain and simple last Monday, the fans are tired of Cena. The fans of been tired of Cena for a very long time and the WWE knows this, going back to him getting booed by every arena in America when he first came to RAW in 2005. But with WWE garnering a new young audience the ratings stayed afloat just enough to justify Cena as "the man."

The WWE just seems so unwilling to turn Cena heel, at this point I honestly just don't get it. It's almost like they have to pretend their way works just so they can say they're right. If I was Vince I would be looking at those ratings hard, and realizing I have to make some big decisions. Cena's run in the WWE will always be very disappointing to me. In the early 80's we had Hulk Hogan who every fan went nuts for. In the mid 90's we had Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels who where two of the most talented guys in wrestling history in the ring. In the late 90's we had Stone Cold and The Rock who of course could wrestle and that the fans went crazy for. Then we have John Cena. To me he had potential starting out but he quickly became the epitome of corporate structure. The WWE might as well of made a disclaimer on every show saying - Hey guys it's John Cena - get ready to love him whether you actually do or not!

So the last few years of WWE they have let me down quite a bit, it wasn't the WWE I fell in love with. There where some ups and downs yes but mostly a stale boring product. Finally the fans have sent a loud message to WWE officials, whether they choose to acknowledge that message or not is lost on me. We know one thing, Cena's dorky face gimmick can't last forever. Will we see some changes in the future? I wouldn't hold my breath. Well that's my rant, as always comment good or bad! Thanks for reading!!!
