As we all know the current divas division in WWE has fallen flat on its face. Any longtime wrestling fan will tell you that it pales in comparison to the days when the divas would get as big of a reaction as the mid-card guys got. That was when the divas division was at its peak and fans didn’t use their matches as an opportunity for a bathroom break. But fast forward to today and long gone are the days of Trish Stratus, Lita, Victoria and countless others who made their division worth watching. Now I’m not going to sit here and dissect every aspect of the divas division that needs fixing because I’d be here all night. I mean let’s be honest, you can only talk about the divas for so long. So instead I’m just going to talk about the biggest issue that I have with their division and why giving them more in-ring time could slowly get people interested in it again.
As I said in the opening paragraph, the divas division has a lot of areas that need fixing. So many in fact that there’s not enough time in the day to go over them all. With that being said out of all the pet peeves that I have with the divas division, my biggest one has to be the amount of time they’re given for their matches. If you were to ask me, I’d tell you that it’s utterly ridiculous how little time these poor girls are given. They bust their asses just as hard as the guys do and deserve quality TV time to showcase their abilities (in some of their cases, lack thereof). But in all seriousness, how can you expect the division to grow as a whole when you can’t even give these girls matches that last longer than three minutes. There’s just no way progress can be made unless changes occur. While I will admit that the majority of today’s divas are unpolished in the ring, and that’s putting it nicely. There are a handful of these beautiful women who can actually go. In my mind AJ, Alicia Fox, Tamina, Natalya and the current Divas Champion Eve are the ladies who Vince and his goons should focus on. Hell, even one of Brodus Clay’s funkadactyls Naomi can go in the ring. I remember seeing some of her matches on NXT and she was quite impressive.
Before any changes can be made in the divas division it all has to start with giving these ladies a chance. WWE needs to realize that they have some talent in the female department and that they need to be treated properly. It’s no wonder so many talented former divas left the company to either pursue better competition or just be treated better. In my opinion Beth Phoenix was a staple of the modern age divas division since 2007/2008 and now that she is gone too, the ladies in the back are really going to have to step their games up. But again, they can’t rise to the occasion if they’re not given the opportunity. As much I wouldn’t like to admit it, I would definitely be interested in the divas division again if things picked up. Hey Vince can you put two and two together? If you give them more time on TV and in the ring, then you and your subpar creative team can start to build feuds to really get things going. Time is the key proponent here and if it’s utilized correctly the opportunities could be endless.
