The Rock vs. CM Punk - Can It Work?

I've made no bones about the fact that I am a huge CM Punk supporter at this moment the only problem the WWE has is there unwillingness to put him in main events at most of their PPV's. It looks now that it is all but official, it seems pretty certain that CM Punk will be fighting The Rock at The Royal Rumble in January. The mass speculation is that The Rock will win the world title and take into next years WrestleMania.

Now the big question is - where does this leave CM Punk? He had a year long reign only to lose it to a guy who shows up once a year? I know that's a little harsh and hell I love The Rock, how can you not. But the fact is it doesn't say a lot about the world title. You have to give WWE their due in giving CM Punk that belt for a year, that's a very strong accolade to have on your resume and CM Punk has got it. But why have CM Punk lose cleanly to The Rock at Rumble? I say make it a triple threat match and have The Rock pin the other guy, CM Punk would come out looking relatively unscathed.

At this point in time there's a small amount of doubt surrounding the match actually happening and the only reason I've decided to do this column was hearing Paul Heyman make a reference to the match on Raw during CM Punk's celebration. The decision could change at any time I haven't really seen anything set in stone. I wonder though, if a Punk/Rock feud could really work. I mean both men are extremley talented it could just be a case of the proverbial styles not meshing well. Whether you love or hate Cena, damn that was one entertaining feud he had with The Rock last year. Punk is good on the microphone, he's a little more soft-spoken then Cena and that could hurt him in a feud with The Rock.

One thing Punk doesn't back down to however, is the truth. Yep that damn truth that always seems to get under wrestlers skin when he's on the microphone. Punk will no doubt be pointing out all of The Rock's shortcomings. The fact that he doesn't do house-shows, the fact that he wrestles one PPV a year, the fact that last year he said he would never leave again...and did. I think the feud will work but on a whole different level than the Cena/Rock feud. Punk will get more under The Rocks skin than anything. The Rock is a towering movie star bigger than CM Punk in a physical sense and marketing sense, but Punks sarcastic and quick-witted attitude will embarrass The Rock more than a few times I'm sure. Either way should the match happen, I think it will work out, it doesn't have the glitz and glamor of the Cena/Rock feud but I think they will find a way to make it possibly more entertaining. Only time will tell, thanks for reading my blog! As always - comment good or bad!

One of the best blogs I have read in awhile. Very nicely done brother.

I think it will work. Pyback makes Punk want to piss himself, but the Rock will throw a whole new level of intimidation at Punk and Heyman. Oh yeah, we can't forget about Heyman. Heyman isn't going to be ready for this at all. It should prove for some really funny moments.

Totally with you on that Jason.

@Jake Russell - Thanks man!

@Jason Haefer - Yeah Heyman and Rock are both great on the mic, should make for some interesting situations

Great blog. As far as their mic skills go, Punk, Rock, and Cena are probably three of the best and funniest in the company. And I think Punk should definitely hit on those aspects about the Rock and then the Rock will come back with his usual catchphrases that brings about the cheap pops. You kno...
