As we all know Dolph Ziggler is one of the brightest up and coming stars that are in the WWE today and It’s only a matter of time until he cashes in his MITB briefcase and cements his spot as one of the top dogs in the business today. But is he ready to be a certified main event star? The self-proclaimed showoff is on the cusp of superstardom. He’s a multi-time Intercontinental and U.S. champion and is your current Money in the Bank winner for a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship. Ziggler is also a former World Champion. Yet for some reason, Ziggler needs something more. He needs an established feud with a main-event player.
In steps WWE’s go to guy... John Cena. He is the biggest star in the company and with a potential feud on the way with Ziggler, will John Cena be the main that finally elevates Dolph Ziggler into the main event scene.
To become a mainstream star you need to have that one big win, that one match that you can say “wow, he’s going to be something!” that is where John Cena is a must if WWE are serious about pushing Ziggler. Cena’s a 12 time World Champion, 3 time United States Champion, a 2 time Tag Team Champion, Royal Rumble winner, Money in the Bank winner and the list goes on. Defeating someone of this character would certify Ziggler as a serious main event player. Dolph has had wins over big names before such as CM Punk, Randy Orton and Chris Jericho, but has never won that big one at PPV. He also faced Edge but could not get the job done against the Rated-R Superstar. Ziggler needs that one elusive big name victory on a grand stage in a main event calibre match not just on regular television.
That’s where this current storyline between John Cena/AJ and Dolph Ziggler’s manager Vickie Guerrero fits perfectly for the two to feud. Cena has been accused of having an affair by Vickie Guerrero with the former Raw General Manager AJ Lee, and of course when there’s Vickie you know Dolph isn’t far behind. Ziggler went obviously straight to Vickie’s aid as usual and actually fought John Cena in the pre-show at the ‘Hell in a Cell’ PPV, but Cena of course prevailed. In fact, Ziggler dedicated his latest episode of his YouTube show ‘WWE Download’ to poke fun at Cena. It now seems inevitable that these two will battle at the upcoming PPV Survivor Series.
It would give Ziggler the perfect rub and exactly what he needs in the eyes of the WWE Universe. It would finally make Ziggler the man. The superstar to carry WWE into the 2013 and beyond. It would make him a main event star... even though most internet fans have been screaming that out for the past year. But not everyone is convinced.
WWE need to make more ‘mid card talents’ into main event stars. Because frankly Ziggler is way past his due. With all his accomplishments to date it’s a shame that he needs that one more big push to make him a main event star.
There is no doubt that the quality of Ziggler’s matches are first class, some of the matches he had on Raw with the likes of Randy Orton, Daniel Bryan and Chris Jericho were outstanding. His most recent match he had on Raw against Daniel Bryan was easily match of the night. We desperately need Dolph Ziggler in the main event picture.
We’ve seen Cena be thrown into the main event picture rather rapidly upon his arrival in the WWE and with that experience could defiantly help Dolph do the same. Also add in Ziggler’s ability to make others look better, you have a real special talent.
If the match happens between the two and the PPV it could quite possibly steal the show. It would be a perfect opportunity to see what he can do up against other main event matches such as the 5 on 5 traditional Survivor Series match and the Show/Sheamus rematch. But if anyone could do it, Ziggler can.
Now another factor to add in is that Ziggler still holds the MITB briefcase. Say the match between Ziggler and Cena happens with Ziggler coming out victorious then later cashing in on the winner of Show/Sheamus. It could set up months of storylines leading up to Wrestlemania XXVIIII and possibly continue a feud with John Cena.
It is only speculation but Cena is the key. A feud and major PPV victory over John Cena would finally make Dolph Ziggler a main event star in the eyes of the WWE Universe.
