The GM Solution
by Bobby Quinn
Hello guppies it's me back again for yet another column, yahoo for all of us. Today I wanted to discuss a very important aspect of the WWE and of their television shows in general and that's to have a main anchor of the show. I really think right now that the WWE is dropping the ball by not having an important person step in and be the Raw General Manager for their show. When I say important I don't mean Vickie Gurerro. Sorry Gurerro is good, but not what RAW needs now. A huge name that keeps coming up in recent months is Ric Flair, I think the ratings for Raw would improve substantially by having a controversial figure who could talk and do promos throughout the show, hell I even liked it when John Laurinaitis was GM as he was becoming pretty damn entertaining on the microphone.
Will it be the ultimate solution to the WWE's declining viewership dilemma? Probably not, but it would sure help out a lot and it would be a step in the right direction. I think back to when Eric Bischoff was the GM of Raw and it provided us with some very entertaining TV that we may not have gotten without a TV authority figure. It always works and can even get some talent over if they feud with GM as it's usually a main event spot. I know the WWE has had a few GM's recently, I'm not going to go into them because it's been an embarrassing aspect of their show and I just don't know why they're dropping the ball in that department.
When I think of who could step up and really connect with the fans as a heel or face as GM a few names come to mind. One is Bret Hart. Bret Hart always had that special connection with the fans and he has legendary status with the company, I would love to see him play a prominent role on Raw as GM. We already went over the Nature Boy Ric Flair, that's obviously a no-brainier as Flair was born to be on TV. We all remember Flair being GM in 2002 and he did a good job, you can't deny that Slick Ric's got the goods for the job. We also have Triple H, I know right now HHH is involved in a storyline with Brock Lesnar but I'm sure they could work something out where he could come back and it would build great heat for their feud.
This all seems to fit into a somewhat alarming trend for the WWE of just not doing things the way that has worked in the past. There's a few things that can easily be improved with the company. The way they are treating CM Punk as world champion is just flat out wrong, I believe going three hours for Raw was wrong and I think them not having an exciting main character for their show is wrong. All of these are quick fixes the WWE just needs to get with it.
Of course the WWE could go in a different direction with this and maybe do a guest GM every week on Raw? That worked out good for the company and it always seemed entertaining, I don't see why it couldn't work again. There is one name we are forgetting that could do wonders for the company again and that's Mike Adamle. Just kidding. In all seriousness though this is something that could really help the WWE and most important of all make the fans tune in again. Got any suggestions for GM? Post them in comments! Thanks for reading!
