Does Mick Foley Still Have It?

I know someone else just did a column addressing a lot of the same issues I am about to address however I felt compelled to do a column about Mick Foley's return for a few reasons - one being I have always been an enormous fan of Mick Foley's and two being that it's one of the main storylines WWE is doing now. Mick Foley is no doubt a legend but there are people, including me who have some doubts about the hardcore legend at this stage in the game.

The big question here I guess is does Mick Foley still have it? Mick Foley's style has always been very unorthodox, he never relied on bodybuilding or high flying, I really can't think of another wrestler who had Mick Foley's style. Mick Foley's style was simple - brutal punishment to his own body. A lot of wrestlers relied solely on hardcore wrestling I know, but Mick just had a way of making it work and look a lot better than it was suppose to. Mick Foley surprised the hell out of me a fear years ago when he fought Ric Flair on TNA Impact where Flair threw Foley from the stage and he landed almost entirely on concrete. All in all Foley's match with Flair turned out to be fantastic, one definitely worthy of being Foley's last match.

It wasn't long before Foley journeyed back to the place that made him a legend, the WWE. Foley has been doing his appearances here and there as the legend giving a little bit of a boost to some storylines that might need them, but up until a few days ago he hadn't been involved in anything big for the WWE in quite some time. Now I am and will always be a Foley-backer, I am a firm believer that if you do enough good stuff in the ring, it can make up for a lot of the downsides you may have. I think Foley really needs to be careful here as he has had more blunders than good matches in the last six years. His return to the WWE in 2006 yielded one good match in my estimation, a match against Edge at Wrestlemania 22. Foley's match at ECW One Night Stand in 2006 was pretty bad, although it turned out to be somewhat entertaining Foley pretty much floundered in it leaving Edge to save the match. Foley's match against Ric Flair brought us some fantastic promos from Flair and Foley but the match you would of expected from these two just wasn't there, it was sadly lackluster.

So will Foley embarrass himself this time around? I sure hope not. Foley is a guy who needs to do some outrageous stuff in the ring as far as wrestling matches go to be good, I'm not sure if he can still do that. There is a ray of hope as we where able to see a great match from him and Flair on Impact a few years ago, lets all hope and pray that we get that Mick Foley at Survivor Series.
