CM Punk is the Heel WWE Needs Right Now

If you look across the landscape of WWE, you’ll be able to see that there are far more faces than there are heels. Now personally I don’t think that’s a good thing. If WWE wants to deliver the best possible product it can to its audience, then they must realize in order to do so, you need to balance out the “good guys” and “bad guys” so to speak. There are way too many babyfaces at the moment, which is why the heel run by CM Punk right now is exactly what this company needs.

Punk’s heel turn came full circle when he brutalized Jerry “The King” Lawler inside of a steel cage no less than three weeks ago. When I watched that I thought to myself, this is EXACTLY what Vince needs to do to stir the pot. You know, makes things interesting again in WWE because let’s face it, certain things tend to get stale after a little while. What made that whole ordeal so great though was the mere presence of blood. I don’t know, I guess just seeing Punk busted open (unfortunately it wasn’t Lawler) and still beating on the WWE Hall of Famer kind of brought back a bit of a nostalgic feeling that we as wrestling fans don’t get too much anymore.

Once Punk’s maiming of the King was complete, there was no question in anyone’s mind as to who the number one heel in the company was. Like Randy Orton, Punk is a natural heel. Don’t get me wrong I thoroughly enjoyed his face run for the past year but in the end he works better as the villain. Not to mention he’s the perfect heel to feud with John Cena at the moment because it always seems like Cena’s feuding with the same people over and over again. Punk’s title reign is now at 293 days and counting which is remarkable to say the least. That’s why turning him heel was essential in keeping his reign relevant and further improving his character. If you ask me it was the tweak that his character needed.

I’m not going to ramble on here because truth be told, I could go on for hours about how much I love the new CM Punk. All I’m going to say is that he’s awesome and it looks like he’s here to stay, at least for now. Punk is the hottest commodity in WWE right now and if Vince McMahon were a smart man (sometimes I wonder), he’d find a way to keep it going and not screw the whole thing up. Today’s WWE is unfortunately living in a PG world, but with Punk’s recent turn, one could only assume that he will most certainly be pushing the envelope. Even though the family friendly rating is there, WWE’s product can be as edgy as they want it to be. So when it comes to the current WWE Champion CM Punk, it’s safe to say that we can expect some more pipebombs in the near future.
