When Commentators Strike Back

When commentators strike back.

So it seems as if we may have a new commentator versus superstar mini feud starting clearly it’s not the first time this has happened. I mean The King has been in numerous feuds with superstars. He has faced the likes of Bret Hart, Tazz, Al Snow, the Miz and now CM Punk. Ever since the King stood up for JR when Tazz was harassing him, he has been the sentimental favourite. Unfortunately being a sentimental favourite generally means one thing. A loss, unless another superstar interferes on their behalf which I am expecting in tonight’s match.

I get it as far as commentators go only a handful have in ring experience and could possibly face a superstar. They are The King, Matt Stryker, William Regal, and Josh Matthews.

If we look at this list we can cut out two of these guys, Matt Stryker had quit in ring competition due to injuries so clearly he won’t be getting into a feud. Josh Matthews was a Tough Enough competitor but his lack of size makes him seem to be unbelievable as competition.

So of course that leaves us with Regal and Lawler. Regal is used mainly on NXT and isn’t seen much, he did have a feud with JTG that people didn’t really know much about as it stayed on NXT. I just don’t know what I think about commentators being used in storylines where they end up in the ring. I love the King but he is already a hall of famer so what does he have left to prove. The one thing about this feud (if you can call it a feud) is that it solidified CM Punk’s heel turn. I suppose WWE will always have a place for commentators in the ring. I nearly forgot JBL’s run as wrestler turned commentator turned wrestler. I get it can work but presently it doesn’t seem realistic. So either WWE needs to stop the assaults on commentators or train other wrestlers to do commentary but still step in the ring when needed.

I don't even see the point in putting the commentators in the ring. Imo, its a waste on a few levels.

The only commentator vs superstar feud I enjoyed was the Cody vs Booker T as Booker is still viable as a in ring competitor and there was a gradual build up. I have disliked all the lets beat up Jerry matches but though the segments on Raw helped Punk go full heel

Totally forgot about booker v Cody.

I agree with relent that this minifeud, and I do hope it is a mini one, is really pushing Punk towards that heel role that he needs to be in order to be an effective champion. I just hope he is still champ when they unveil the new belt and get rid of the gimmick spinner belt. That was fine when Ce...

Yeah it's all just trying to prove to the WWE Universe that he's truly is a HEEL now. Notice he's actually getting BOOed this week. And the new haircut....just AWESOME in my opinion. He's really starting to sound like the cocky heel from the S.E.S days from a couple years ago.

I like his S.E.S character but I don't want that gimmick again. When he tried it as new nexus it was not his best work.
