Backlash is upon us and there are a few championship matches set for the card. But the likely main event of the night is going to be AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE Championship.

Dave Meltzer broke down the idea of having this match on Wrestling Observer Radio and opened up about how it would make the most sense to see a title change fo the top championship on SmackDown Live.

“There’s no reason not to [change the WWE Championship] they’re booked against each other going forward. If AJ beats him again it would make no sense if they’re going to keep booking them unless they’re going to move to AJ and Joe. So I think a title change makes the most sense. I don’t know if they’re going to do it but I think it makes the most sense.”

Therefore we could have a new champion at Backlash, it’s just a matter of how WWE plans on booking him to win the title if that is their plan.
