Plenty of people thought Paige wouldn’t be seen again for a while after she revealed on the Raw After WrestleMania that she in fact retiring. She made it sound like there were plenty of new ventures for her elsewhere and she was about to start a new chapter in her life.

But then out of nowhere, Shane McMahon announced that Paige would replace Daniel Bryan since he’s no longer able to be General Manager because he’s a full-time performer once again. But it was Vince McMahon’s call to have Paige fill the role even though that might not have always been the plan.

Byan Alvarez got the inside tip on when WWE made the decision to have Paige become the big surprise GM which he revealed on Wrestling Observer Live (H/T to Still Real To Us).

“They decided on Tuesday she was gonna be the SmackDown GM,” Alvarez continued. “So that should tell you everything you need to know about the Superstar Shake-Up. They will be switching people on Monday and then they’ll decide who they wanna switch on Tuesday. I’m sure they’ve got some ideas about who’s going where right now. But nothing is official until they’ve been drafted one way or the other.”

It’s kind of interesting how Paige and Daniel Bryan seem to be switching places. But Daniel is giving Paige hope that she will get to wrestle again. One thing is for sure, it looks like Paige will be much closer to the action than we first thought when she made her tear-filled retirement speech on Raw.
