During the mailbag segment of today’s installment of Wrestling Observer Radio, a reader asked if WWE was ever close to booking Steve Austin vs. CM Punk as a reality or if the story was just a rumor with no merit.

Dave Meltzer responded to the question and revealed that there were never any plans at all for the match to take place, despite the company teasing it in a backstage segment on the June 13th, 2011 episode of RAW.

“No. It was not close at all. It was never going to happen.”
