It was previously reported Tuesday night by Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated that Rey Mysterio was backstage at this week’s SmackDwon tapings in Los Angeles, California and was working out the details for a match against John Cena for this year’s WrestleMania 34 event.

According to PWInsider, several sources have indicated that Mysterio was not at all in Los Angeles for Tuesday’s SmackDown tapings. While Mysterio has been working out a new agreement to return to the company, it still remains unknown if Barrasso’s claims about the rumored match against John Cena at WrestleMania are true.

With Barasso’s recent track record not being the best lately and now PWInsider confirming that Mysterio wasn’t even at SmackDown, it seems very unlikely that Mysterio vs. Cena is in the books for Maina’. We noted early on Tuesday via Dave Meltzer that the plan was still for Undertaker vs. Cena at WrestleMania. It seems very unlikely that WWE would tease the match on Monday and then turn around and do a complete 180 and book Cena against Mysterio.

We will keep you updated if we receive any other details regarding Mysterio’s status with WWE.
